Hope Renewed: Surviving an Eating Disorder

My vision for this blog is to provide hope for the hurting through sharing my personal journey as I recover from an eating disorder that once ran my life. Today, I am healthy and living out my dreams thanks to much prayer, therapy and rehab.However, I know fighting the force of an eating disorder is an everyday battle. I pray that this blog inspires you to keep pressing on and remember that your worth is not measured by the number on a scale.

My name is Bre and I am 29 years old. I live in Rochester, NY and run my own business as a marketing consultant. I am married and have a 1-year old daughter. I am an only child who is passionate about my faith, my family and my Italian heritage :) It may seem like my life is pretty average, however, I struggle with a daily battle that many can relate to. In the spring of 2010 I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. That spring I began treatment which led to the beginning of my recovery. Because of my faith in Jesus, support of family & friends, intense rehab and many counseling sessions I was able to begin the year of 2011 with a new outlook on life.

I celebrate being symptom free for over 8 years and most of all I celebrate the life I am able to live since turning from my eating disorder and embracing who I TRULY am. Since finishing rehab it has been the cry of my heart to help those contending with the same lies that the eating disorder plants. I know how hard the fight can be, especially with the pressure the media puts on us as individuals and I believe that we can make a difference if we stick together and encourage one another. I have become a stronger person because of the scars my eating disorder has left behind and I believe that beauty truly can be made from the blackest of ashes. Most of all, I hope this blog helps you to know how much you are loved by your creator and how beautiful you are to Him.
